What is a Climate Café?
 Change Starts with conversations!

It is called a Climate Café because it is an informal meeting that takes place on a monthly basis and is open to everyone of any age whether they are familiar with climate change or not but who are interested in its effects on the environment
People are welcome to come along, have a coffee or tea and chat to others about any concerns they have regarding issues with climate change. They can also support in whatever way they are comfortable: some people want to act, others want to help through group discussions, advice and information gathering

It is all about empowering and enabling people through the Climate Cafes to feel supported and encouraged to work together to make the changes needed to live more sustainable lifestyles. One person can make a difference - think of Greta Thunberg and the children and student's Climate Strikes - so imagine what we could achieve if lots of individuals came together to work on climate change issues

There are a few Climate Cafés now, Dunkeld and Birnam, Blairgowrie, Aberfeldy, Aberdeen, and the network continues to expand, the next one could be Perth, There are even some established in Australia and the USA. The Climate Café groups come together regularly for meetings and presentations too

Jess Pepper - a climate advocate and Climate Reality Mentor who is actively involved in community action on climate change, and worked for environmental NGO's incIuding WWF Scotland - is founder of the Climate Café movement and organised the world's first Climate Café about 5 years ago in Dunkeld and Birnam which is still going strong today

Our Community Response to COP26 in Glasgow

COP26 is now finished but the effects of this event will be felt in the coming months and years. It has been a busy October and November in Pitlochry with so many events organised in response to it, including the Pitlochry Community Tattie Bogle and Tumshie Festival, and two craft workshops on stone painting and bunting making with the Pitlochry Community Support Group. At the bunting  workshop Lindsey Gibb, a story Teller from Dunkeld and Birnam, came to the Atholl Centre and told a story about repairing and reusing

These events, along with our Climate Cafe Zero-waste Reuse Festival  have been great successes and were focussed on reusing resources.
We finished with another screening of the Australian Climate Solutions documentary film, 2040 by Damon Gameau. Thank you to everyone who took part in all these events as we could not have done it without you. Watch this space for news of more things happening in the new year

Here is a photo gallery of these events, click to enlarge the images:
