We continued the Big Climate Conversation which started locally at the Birnam Arts Institute, with lots of information boards about climate change, recycling and avoiding/reducing waste with guest Martin Mathers from Heat Project in Blairgowrie providing information and advice on saving energy and how to save money on your gas and electricity bills.
The main part of the event was focused on vegan food. As a plant-based diet still has lots of stigma around it we wanted to show people that 100% vegan dishes can be delicious, healthy and easy to do. The food part of the Festival included:

Our food tables proved to be very popular and helped us raise funds to cover the costs of the event.

The group organized a few activities for our visitors: we had a swap-shop with lots of clothes donations, face painting for kids, a Furoshiki workshop - zero waste fabric gift wrapping technique and a drawing competition for kids - they created a poster to answer the question ' why recycling is important'.
The Furoshiki workshop was attended by 6 people, and each of the attendants received furoshiki wrap to take with them. We had 4 entries in our drawing competition and as there was a broad range of ages between the kids we decided to split the three prizes we had available, and give each child a prize.
We worked closely with local businesses and groups and had some attending the event such as Lesley Howkins from Lelley Makes who creates bags and products from recycled denim and not only showcased her products but also demonstrated how she creates new ones on her sewing machine. Her business promotes how we can recycle and upcycle and how she always makes sure there is as little waste as possible.
The second stall was the launch of a new venture in Pitlochry 'Make a Party' by 'Make I do'. Elaine Scott. It is a rental service of crockery, cutlery, decoration, and supplies for a party which aims to help reduce the impact disposable single-use partyware has on our planet.

Many of our local Climate Café group and their families worked very hard prior to the event and on the day and as we consider this event a great success with so many visitors we are definitely looking at creating others in the future.
